As a childbirth Doula and a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, I frequently use essential oils for my clients and my own family. Quality is very important to me. That is why I only recommend one brand of essential oils. Throughout my research, I have found that the quality of Young Living Oils is unique. When I spend time around pregnant or nursing mothers or others with allergic tendencies or sensitivities, purity is even more important when choosing an essential oil. I do not want any adulterated oils to be anywhere near my mamas or those who I am helping to recover their health. I also do not want to spend money on oils that have already been diluted in a base oil.
A word to the wise on oils: always, always, always choose essential oils from a clean source. Choose oils that are 100% pure and don’t contain any types of fillers. I truly believe that when it comes to something like essential oils you really do get what you pay for. The plus side to oils is that you only need a very small amount to go a long way. **Please note: Peace and Calming and Valor has been replaced with Stress Away and Melaleuca.
These 10 essential oils can be found in the Everyday Oils Kit that you can purchase from Young Living. This is a starter kit which can help you to begin seeing the benefits of Young Living oils in your life and the lives of each of your family members. I really do use essential oils daily for my family and they have versatile uses which are helpful with a whole host of things. Take a look at the oils below and see how they can help your family on a daily basis.
Joy – If you are feeling down, joy can be helpful in lifting mood. It can be worn on the wrists diluted or neat (directly on the skin) as a perfume. It can be diffused through the home to promote and overall feeling of peace, joy, and can promote togetherness in the home.
Lemon – Lemon oil can be used as a flavoring in baking, cooking, gummy candies, and to assist the body’s natural filtering processes. It is an uplifting scent that can also increase mood. It contains powerful antioxidants that will support the nervous system and help disarm free radicals in the body. Lemon oil is also commonly used in recipes for cleaning products.
Purification – This blend can be diffused to clear the air of toxins and impurities. It can also be used to soothe bites, cuts and scrapes. Purification has also been known to keep pests out of the house such as mice and bugs.
Valor – I frequently use this blend during labor with my Doula clients. Valor can promote feelings of strength, courage and self-esteem. You can use it as a perfume or diffuse it throughout the home.
Peppermint – Peppermint can also be used for enhancing flavor in food & drink. And, it can help to revitalize the spirit and to give energy. It is also helpful in calming the digestive tract. It also has been known to improve mental clarity as well as promoting fullness after meals. Note: I do caution the use of peppermint at anytime for nursing mothers. Mint herbs can often decrease milk supply.
Peace & Calming – I’ve been known to defuse an entire bottle of this blessed blend when my husband leaves town. It is wonderful at doing exactly what it is named to do by promoting a peace and calm environment. It can help encourage an uplifting attitude and release tension. It can also be wonderful to diffuse in children’s (or parent’s) rooms when they are having trouble falling asleep or have had a very active day.
Lavender – My favorite scent in the whole world, Lavender has many wonderful uses. I have used it in cleaning recipes, on bug bites, and to calm and over active nervous system. I also love to use Lavender on bed sheets and as an air freshener. This wonderful oil can be used to enhance the flavor in food and can be used to calm redness from the sun. It is known for its soothing properties. There is a rare day that goes by that I have not used my lavender oil.
Frankincense – This ancient oil is mentioned in the bible and was brought to the Christ child upon his birth. This sacred oil is known to stimulate the mind and improve ones spiritual life. It has been used in skin care recipes and is known to assist healthy aging skin. This oil can also be used for calming the nervous system and supporting the immune system.
PanAway – This blend can be used for soothing sore and achy muscles.
Thieves – Oh Thieves! My favorite and most used blend of all time! I use thieves for an amazing thieves tea to soothe my throat. It has a spicy holiday scent to it.

Hi! I’m interested in hearing what the second brand of essential oils is that you recommend. I also use Young Living, however it is rare that I hear Young Living supporters acknowledge another brand as useable. I usually find that attitude a little frustrating, so you piqued my interest. 🙂 Thanks!
