Do you know that superfoods give you super powers?
They do and that’s what I tell my kids as I am trying to educate them on proper nutrition.
Superfoods are important in the American diet; we miss out so many nutrients because our grocery store bought foods are grown in nutrient depleted soils.
Really, a superfood is a food that is super rich in nutrients. A real superfood has been proven to deliver the nutrition the body needs to function properly. Below is a list of superfoods, but it is definitely not a complete list. These superfoods are some of my favorites. They are foods I keep stocked in my cabinet and hide in my family’s smoothies.
These foods are some of the ones that give my children their superpowers:
Camu Camu – Found throughout the rivers of the Amazon in Peru and Brazil, this low growing shrub is one of the best ways to get your vitamin C. This powerful superfood contains 30-60 times more vitamin C than an orange. Camu Camu also contains beta-carotene, potassium, and amino acids. It has a sweet and sour taste. I often add it to smoothies or make homemade sour “candies” with it. — Where to find
Chia Seeds – These babies are loaded with both fatty acids and fiber. These bad boys are known for absorbing 10x their weight in water and are fantastic for making puddings. They are also super amazing to aid in proper digestion due to their gelatinous nature. They bind to toxins and are helpful in moving them out of the body. Chia seeds also contain essential minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, and potassium.
Moringa – Known as “the miracle tree”, this amazing superfood has been eaten for centuries. According to the Ayurvedic system of medicine it is known to cure or prevent close to 300 diseases. Moringa leaves are very high in protein, calcium, potassium, vitamin A and vitamin C.– Where to find

Nettles are a blood builder and supply much needed iron, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin D, and vitamin K. Nettle is known to encourage healthy blood, kidneys, and help the body adapt to stress and expel toxins. One of my favorite ways to use Nettle is with a DIY ‘Kool Aid’ HERE. — Where to find
