How I became a Successful Work-At-Home Mom

When I was a child my mom stayed at home to raise us while my father worked.  

As a parent I always have wanted to do the same thing for my children.  Over the years, my husband and I have figured out how to live on very little in order to support our family of five on one small non-profit salary.  Many times, when we’ve shared what his income has been I have people saying, “Are you kidding me, that’s all you live on?  How do you do it?”  And, most of those people have no idea how much my nutritionally minded self spends and wants to spend on good food.  It is a very important part of my life.

No, we aren’t kidding.  We feel blessed that even though it would have been nice to have a little bit more money, we were able to make ends meet for our family of 5 on this very very limited budget.  We are thankful for very little debt and completely paid for cars that has made it possible for us to live on a single income.  Sometimes I’m not sure how we did it, but we always had enough to pay the bills and still eat well.

Since we’ve always lived on a limited budget and I felt it was important to stay home with my children, I have always dabbled in side work at home jobs to attempt to supplement our income.  Plus, I am a first-born.  I think I have felt like it was a duty to try to supplement our income.  I have enjoyed the journey too of trying to be my own boss.

I started blogging five years ago at my first blog, Our Peaceful Home, which no longer exists (my home was no longer peaceful with three littles, Ha!) with the desire to make some income at home.   Our Peaceful Home lit a fire in me to be my own boss and have my own business.  This blog did not end up supplementing us much income at all, only free products. But, it was part of my learning journey for sure.  It was a wild dream of mine for a long time to make an extra $500 a month to help pay our bills or maybe save a little bit once in a while.  I didn’t know how it would be possible to make it happen, but I was determined to find out.

Finally, I landed a sales job with Rockin’ Green Soap through blogging contacts and I had a few good months where I made close to $500 a month.  That really helped make ends meet and it always felt good to have a little extra.  Of course, that job was all on commission and I soon found myself having trouble finding companies that didn’t already carry the product.  So, after about 4-6 months that job ended and I still carried the passion to be my own boss, own my own business, and see my dreams fulfilled for financial freedom.

It has taken me five years to make a full-time income from working at home, but I finally did it.  

Actually, I was completely motivated to make a full-time income work this time because I was terribly tired of my husband traveling 70+ days a year, working terribly hard, and us still not able to afford any help for me when he was on the road.  Actually, in the past few months I have quadrupled his old income and my husband quit his job on August 1st to be at home with our family.  Sometimes it feels like a dream that I get to do what I love everyday including be with my family.

But, the truth is I didn’t really make a successful work at home job work just by wanting to make extra money.  I couldn’t make enough extra money when I was just trying to make extra money.  It was basically just a waste of time.  The only time I’ve been able to actually make my business successful was when I found a way to work for a living at what I was passionate about.  

If you read through my blog, you will find that I am passionate about natural health, natural healing, birth, babies and essential oils.  I don’t talk bout these things because I am trying to just make money.  I talk about them because I love them and I want other people to benefit from them.  I want other people to be healthy, really really healthy so that they can spend more time with their families and enjoy each other  more.

The truth is, life is short, it should be cherished.  No one wants to be sold too.  People want a better life. They don’t want to be sick anymore and if they realize it or not they want to be able to enjoy time with the people they love.  That is what has motivated me to do what I do.  I want to enjoy my family and I want others to enjoy precious moments with their families as well.

How have I become a successful work-at-home mom?

As my blog has grown in readership and traffic I have seen my income grow through ad revenue and people purchasing ebooks through my affiliate links for books that I truly love and that I believe can make others lives and health better such as this one.  I don’t sell them from my blog because I want to take anyone’s money, I blog about them and use affiliate links them because I am passionate about them.  I also still work as a doula for clients from time to time, and I take Nutritional Therapy clients as well.  I make part of my income this way.  These things give me joy because I believe in seeing healthy families, mamas and babies.

These are the things that first got me going, they helped me find my passion when it comes to helping people.  I get so excited for hearing testimonials and getting hugs from clients whom I was their doula.  I get jacked when people are able to cut sick time through natural healing tools and a proper diet.

Young Living Essential Oils has been my biggest blessing financially.  Network marketing companies get a bad wrap, but actually they have a fantastic business model.  It takes very little money to get started and it gives individuals the opportunity to make lots of money, just by sharing a fantastic product.  Just like everything else on my blog, I don’t talk about Young Living Essential Oils because I’m trying to make money.  I talk about Young Living essential oils because I believe in their effectiveness. I believe in their purity. And, I see testimonies daily about how they are changing people’s lives.  I have used tons of brands of essential oils on the market and I know that Young Living has some of the highest quality oils on the market.  I have to ignore the network marketing haters out there, because they really don’t know what they are missing.

Plus, I love Young Living essential oils because I can help other moms, and dad’s make their financial dreams come true too.  There are very few companies that you can share about why you love their product and you actually can get paid for it.  Usually you get jack nothing for sharing about products you love. I can also help families with Young Living that don’t have a natural health mindset get started towards health and healing by getting started with Young Living.  For me, it isn’t about selling a product, and it isn’t about trying to make money.  It is about true health and vitality.  I feel like I am doing what I was born to do as I pursue my passion to see others healthy and well.  

I’m leading people towards better health.  I am giving families a chance to spend time together and enjoy each other.  I am heaping people get their foot in the door to take baby steps towards a healthier lifestyle so that they can enjoy their children and grandchildren some day.  I’m making more money, but not for the sake of making money, I’m able to give more to missionaries, and take my family on vacations for once.  I’m spending time enjoying precious moments that pass us by so quickly.

I’m leading a positive Revolution towards healthier world.
